Vigamox eye drop is an ophthalmic preparation that is commonly used for the treatment of various kind of eye infection. It is a kind of antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis, (eye infection) caused by susceptible bacteria. It contains Moxifloxacin as the chief ingredient. It comes under the class of medication known as Fluoroquinolone antibiotic. This medication works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. This results in the inhibition of growth of bacteria that helps to treat the infection.

Method of application of Vigamox eye drops

Before the use of this medication remove your contact lenses, and spectacles and wash your hand to avoid contamination. Do not let the dropper tip touch any surface. Shake well before application. To use this medication tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Bring the eye drop just above the eye and then instill the prescribed number of drops. Close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Apply gentle pressure to the inside corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining down the tear duct.

What are the contraindications of Vigamox eye drops?

If you are allergic to ingredient present in the Vigamox eye drop then you should not use this medication.

You should not use Vigamox if you have a fungal or viral eye infection. This medicine is used only to treat bacterial infections.

What are the drug interactions of Vigamox eye drops?

Do not use following medication along with this medication such as:

  • Gatifloxacin.
  • Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic.
  • Ofloxacin.
  • Norfloxacin ophthalmic.
  • Norfloxacin.
  • Levofloxacin.
  • Lomefloxacin.
  • Levofloxacin ophthalmic.

What are the precautions of Vigamox eye drops?

  • Do not use this medication for longer duration.
  • This medication is intended for use in the eyes. Do not swallow or inject Vigamox.
  • This medication is only used only to treat bacterial infections. Do not use Vigamox if you have a fungal or viral eye infection.
