What is the role of Combigan Eye Drop?

Combigan is an effective ophthalmic preparation that treats high intraocular pressure of the eyes. This ophthalmic preparation is extensively used to treat open-angle glaucoma and other conditions that occur due to high pressure in the eyes. This medication lowers the high pressure from the eyes by releasing fluid from the eyes, thereby preventing blindness.

What is the action mechanism of Combigan Eye Drop?

Combigan consists of Brimonidine and Timolol as the main active constituent.

Mechanism of action of Brimonidine:  Brimonidine functions by reducing the amount of fluid present in uveal canals of the eye, thereby reducing the buildup of pressure inside the eyes.

Mechanism of action of Timolol: Timolol belongs to the class of β- blockers that are also responsible for the reduction of pressure inside the eyes, thereby treating open-angle glaucoma and other disorders.

What is the dosing schedule of Combigan Eye Drop?

Combigan contains Brimonidine in the dosing strength of 0.2%w/v and Timolol in the dosing strength of 0.5%w/v.

To alleviate high intraocular pressure firstly make sure your hands are clean. Now pull your lower eyelid while tilting your head back and instill 1-2 eye drops into the affected eyes. Close your eyes for 15 seconds. Repeat the same process in the other eye as well. Use these eye drops twice a day at an interval of 10-12 hours. Avoid the contact of these eye drops with nose and mouth.

What are the contraindications to the use of Combigan Eye Drop?
  • Do not use this medication if you are allergic to any of the components of this medication.
  • If you have recently suffered from eye injury or eye surgery then stay away from Combigan.
  • Do not use this medication in case you are suffering from uveitis or iritis.

  • This medication should not be used by pregnant women and lactating mothers.
