The dosage regimen for Betaxolol ophthalmic:

This medicine is to be instilled in the infected eye for two times a day with proper instructions given below. Do not drop more than the prescribed dose as this may lead to disastrous effects.

Method of using Betaxolol ophthalmic:

Firstly, wash your hands thoroughly with mild soap and water. Do not touch the dropper tip against your eye or anything else. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower lid of your eye with your index finger in such way it forms a pouch type. Drop a single drop in the pocket formed without touching. Gently close your treated eye for about 2 to 3 minutes. Avoid blinking or squeezing your eyelids and gently apply pressure onto the eyes. With the help of tissue paper wipes out extra fluid.

Drug interaction:

Betaxolol can cause drug interactions with some other eye care medications; such as beta blockers like Atenolol (Tenormin), carteolol (Cartrol), labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), metoprolol (Lopressor), nadolol (Corgard), propranolol (Inderal), sotalol (Betapace), or Timolol (Blocadren); guanidine (Quinidex, Quinaglute Dura-Tabs); verapamil (Calan, Isoptin); and vitamins.

Contradictory conditions with Betaxolol ophthalmic:
  • Do not instill Betaxolol ophthalmic solution in case you are allergic to Betaxolol or any other drugs.
  • Do not instill if you have or have ever had thyroid, heart, or lung disease, congestive heart failure, or diabetes.

Preventive measures with Betaxolol ophthalmic:

  • Do avoid the use of Betaxolol ophthalmic if you are on your pregnancy, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If by chance you conceive while using Betaxolol, you should immediately call your doctor immediately.
  • Do avoid the use of Betaxolol if the patient is having surgery, including dental surgery; do make the doctor or dentist aware of your on-going medicine of Betaxolol.
  • If you have to use any other topical eye care medication, do make a gap of at least 10 minutes after you instill Betaxolol.
